HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c714W
Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is to be the future procedure for the selection and appointment of justices of the peace under the District Councils (Scotland) Bill other than those appointed ex officio.

Mr. William Ross

If Clause 9(2) of the District Courts (Scotland) Bill is enacted, justices of the peace will be appointed by instrument under the hand of the Secretary of State. Recommendations for such appointments will continue to be submitted by local justice of the peace advisory committees. As from 16th May 1975 new advisory committees for districts and islands areas will be appointed in place of the existing committees for counties.
