HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c633W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the number of requests received by the Conciliation and Arbitration Service for conciliation; and if he will indicate on what occasions the CAS has been successful in (a) arbitration and (b) conciliation.

Mr. Booth

In the first three months of its existence, the CAS has received 440 requests for conciliation. The Chairman of the CAS has said that a settlement is achieved in about 70 per cent. of cases, but no precise figures are yet available. By 6th December, there had been 41 abritration hearings arranged by the CAS. Parties customarily give an undertaking that they will accept the arbitration award.
