HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 cc637-8W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what legislative obligations the Government have undertaken by their agreement to the EEC directive on collective dismissals which go beyond the proposals in the consulta- tive document on the Employment Protection Bill.

Mr. John Fraser

None. The directive's provisions are without prejudice to legislation by member States that is more favourable to workers. The Government's proposals for Great Britain, as set out in the consultative document, are more favourable than the provisions of the directive. Appropriate legislative proposals will be introduced in respect of Northern Ireland.
