§ Mr. David Howellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations she has received concerning the impact of the new level of social security contributions upon the clergy ; what consideration she has given to this matter ; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. O'MalleyLetters received from members of the clergy have mainly sought advice as to their position from April 1975 under the Social Security Act 1973. As I explained on 26th November, during the Report stage of the Social Security Amendment Bill, we are proposing that the clergy should remain self-employed contributors for an interim period of one year, as had been requested by the Churches Main Committee.—[Vol. 882, c. 347.]
