HC Deb 20 December 1974 vol 883 c632W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many industrial training boards have introduced apprenticeship to industry schemes whereby the board recruits and employs the apprentice.

Mr. Harold Walker

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that there is none on these lines. The Construction Industry Training Board does provide, under its new standard scheme for first year off-the-job training in building craft, places for award holders who are selected by the CITB and who, after the appropriate training period, are placed with and apprenticed to firms in the industry. In the 1974…75 training year 650 young people have been selected by the CITB and given awards under the new standard scheme. These awards have been made to enable the planned targets for the new standard scheme to be achieved in the training year.
