HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 c610W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is aware of the fact that companies which have undertaken to reclaim and recycle waste paper are now claiming that they have no demand for their product; and if he will give advice to such firms on marketing opportunities.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

I have been asked to reply.

I am aware of the current over-supply of certain grades of waste paper and my colleague the Under-Secretary of State for Industry has discussed the situation with representatives of the paper and board industry. He has asked the industry to consider its policy on stock building to see what relief this could give, and has indicated that we would be prepared to consider any proposals which fall within the ambit of the Industry Act.
