HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 cc503-4W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now increase the financial reward payable to police officers for outstanding bravery from £20 to such sum as will restore the award to the same buying power as it held when originally introduced.

Dr. Summerskill

I assume my hon. and learned Friend is referring to the Bow Street Reward Fund. This is an independent trust from which the Bow Street Magistrates may at their discretion give rewards to members of the Metropolitan Police. There are also independent reward funds in certain police forces, but my right hon. Friend has no control over the funds.
