HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 cc605-6W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress is being made with research into the toxic properties of burning plastics materials, including foamed materials, under varying fire conditions at the Chemical Defence Establishment, the University of London and elsewhere; when conclusions can be expected; and whether it is proposed to take any action warning the public of the hazards that may be involved.

Mr. Kaufman

I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the BRE Press notice issued last week, together with the recently published BRE current paper on "Polymeric Materials in Fires", prepared by the Fire Research Station and the Building Regulations Professional Division of DOE. The various items of research, which cover a wide range of products, are designed to enable appropriate action to be taken if required as soon as the results of the different projects become available.
