§ Mr. Cyril Smithasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will take steps to provide an emergency grant for the NSPCC in order to save its current programme of activities from reduction.
§ Dr. OwenMy Department has already agreed to grant the NSPCC about £45,000 over the next 12 months towards the cost of providing special units for families 543W where non-accidental injury has occurred and for research. In addition the Department makes a grant of £16,500 a year in respect of student units and contributes up to a maximum of £4,000 for the training of NSPCC staff. My officials met representatives of the NSPCC on 11th December, and in the light of the discussions I am considering what further help should be given.
