1. Industrial development certificates have not been required in the development and special development areas since July 1972. In August 1974 DA status was accorded to the Scottish Intermediate Area and to part of the Welsh IA. IDCs have not been required in the new DAs since 1st September 1974.
2. IDC exemption limits were reduced outside the intermediate areas from 1st September 1974. To facilitate comparisons, the figures included in the table for approvals from that date relate to projects exceeding the former exemption limits of 10,000 sq. ft. or 15,000 sq. ft. according to location. The 10,000 sq. ft. exemption limit applied only in the South East Economic Planning Region.
