HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 cc593-4W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many full-time farmers there are in Wales; how many of these are hill farmers; and how many are marginal farmers.

Mr. John Morris

The number of whole-time farmers, partners and directors in Wales as shown by the June 1973 agricultural returns was 23,363, of whom it is estimated that approximately 6,000 were on hill or upland farms. There is no statistical definition of marginal farmers.
