Mr Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the latest estimate of total defence spending for 1974–75.

Mr. Mason

An estimate of the outturn at 1974 survey prices will be published in due course in the Public Expenditure White Paper.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how the defence budget for the current year is divided in percentage terms between the Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force; and how he expects the budget in (a) 1974 and (b) 1984 to be divided between the three Services.

For 1974-75 the estimated breakdown is as follows:

Navy: 25 per cent

Army: 34 per cent.

Air Force: 31 per cent.

Procurement Executive: 8 per cent

Miscellaneous: 2 per cent.

A similar breakdown is not available for 1983–84.
