HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 cc560-1W
Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many naval personnel at present occupy naval accommodation, having officially resigned, and whilst awaiting the availability of non-Service accommodation, broken down by commissioned and non-commissioned ranks.

Mr. Judd

Currently, six officers and 182 ratings—including 21 Royal Marines —remain in occupation of naval married quarters after having left the Service.

Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what advice he is circulating to local authorities to assist ex-naval personnel, retired prematurely, to find alternative accommodation.

Mr. Judd

This is primarily a matter for the Department of the Environment, which hopes shortly to issue a new circular giving advice to local authorities on the council housing needs of ex-Service men and indicating ways in which they can help. The circular will apply equally to all ex-Service men, including those retiring prematurely.
