§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the size of the married quarter recently purchased for occupation by the RAF Director-General of Personnel Management; and if he will list the facilities regarded as lacking in his previous quarters.
§ Mr. JohnThe living area of the recently purchased house to which the hon. Member refers is approximately 3,500 square feet; this figure excludes the covered badminton court. The married quarter which has been occupied by successive Director Generals of Personnel Management since 1971 is well below the approved scale for an air vice marshal in command. In particular the quarter is too small, badly proportioned and ill designed, and it is considered that these deficiencies make it difficult for the full responsibilities of the post to be properly discharged.
