Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many of the 43 boys and 12 girls detained in special hospitals on 6th December 1974 are in adult wards; and if she will indicate the age and sex of those not segregated from adults;

(2) if she will give the ages of the 43 boys and 12 girls detained in special hospitals who are in adult wards, and the ages of the adults they share with.

and girls no longer have to be kept in special hospitals together with adults.

In placing patients in particular wards regard has to be paid not only to the age and sex of the patient but also to the treatment needs and compatibility of the patients. The present facilities do not permit all adolescents to be nursed in separate wards even if this were always clinically desirable.
