HC Deb 18 December 1974 vol 883 c453W
50. Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proposals he has made in the EEC Council of Ministers concerning the United Kingdom contribution to the Community budget; and what response he has received.

Mr. Joel Barnett

At their meeting on 9th and 10th December Heads of Government of the EEC agreed to ask the institutions of the Community to set up as soon as possible a correcting mechanism of general application to prevent the development of situations unacceptable for member States, and, in doing so, to take account of the suggestions made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

51. Mr. Fitch

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has yet made an estimate of the economic benefits and disadvantages inherent in British membership of the EEC.

Mr. Dell

The Government are currently engaged in renegotiating the United Kingdom's terms of membership of the EEC. An estimate of the kind suggested by my hon. Friend would be premature at this stage.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has now been paid by the United Kingdom to the various EEC funds under the Treaty of Accession to the EEC; and what payments the United Kingdom has received from such funds.

Mr. Joel Barnett

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to a similar Question by the hon. Member for Blackpool, South (Mr. Blaker) on Friday 6th December.—[Vol. 882, c. 669.]
