HC Deb 18 December 1974 vol 883 cc495-6W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authorities in Wales are selling council houses at the present time.

Mr. John Morris

Between 1st April and 31st October 1974 seven housing authorities in Wales sold 141 dwellings, 107 of which were sold by Cardiff City Council, mostly in fulfilment of undertakings given by their predecessors. Although the sale of council houses is a matter for the housing authorities themselves to determine, I have informed authorities in Wales of my view that it would be generally wrong for them to sell dwellings in areas where there is a substantial need for rented accommodation.
