HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 cc396-7W
Charges Mr. Higgins

asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) if he will give a general direction to the Post Office to alter the practice whereby, if there is a fault in telephone equipment which prevents a caller from a public call box from being connected, though ready to pay the coin box charge, a higher rate is charged for connection through the operator ;

(2) if he will give a general direction to the Post Office to alter the practice whereby, in cases where a technical fault in telephone equipment results in a coin being lost in a public telephone box without the caller being connected and further attempts via the operator result in the loss of more coins without a connection being made, the operator is only allowed to connect the caller on payment of a total sum equal to the full operator call rate.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

No ; these are management matters for the Post Office.
