HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 c406W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he is aware that in January 1974 the hon. Member for Epping Forest wrote to his Department about the appointment of a Royal personage as President of the Northern Ireland Committee of the European Architectural Heritage Year, Royal personages having been appointed as presidents of the corresponding committees for England, Wales and Scotland; and whether he will now recommend such an appointment to the Northern Ireland committee.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The Northern Ireland committee was appointed by the previous administration and is now very well advanced with its work. I shall, however, consider ways in which the work of the committee and the Northern Ireland contribution to the European Architectural Heritage Year might appropriately be recognised.
