HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 c402W
Mr. Jay

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what further action is being taken by Her Majesty's Government to prevent the fraudulent use by traders of public money available under the common agricultural policy of the EEC.

Mr. Bishop

Under Community legislalation for the common agricultural policy member States are required to take the measures necessary, in accordance with their own national practices, to prevent fraud. In the United Kingdom the normal financial control procedures applying to Government expenditure have, therefore, been introduced in respect of public moneys available under the CAP of the EEC. In addition, Her Majesty's Government have given their full support within the Community to measures for controlling fraud in Community trade and are taking steps to ensure that the conclusions of the Commission's Special Committee of Inquiry into methods of preventing fraud are actively pursued.
