HC Deb 16 December 1974 vol 883 cc313-4W
Mr. Spence

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will investigate the sugar shortage which has hit rural shopkeepers in the Thirsk and Malton constituency area of the county of North Yorkshire, and in particular the area of Bagby near Thirsk; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Strang

The Ministry's monitoring has shown some variations in sugar supplies to particular shops and areas. This pattern results from commercial transactions in which the Ministry has no powers to intervene. But I have asked officials to contact the one shop in Bagby which sells sugar to see if there is anything that can be done to help.
