HC Deb 16 December 1974 vol 883 c311W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what payments have been made by his Department and what advice about tax concessions has been provided through his Department to firms in the North West Region with a view to limiting the rise in unemployment in each of the last four months.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

Full records are not kept on a regional basis, but the approximate figures for payments by the Department of Industry are as follows:

£ million
August 4.1
September 3.9
October 5.6
November 4.3

These figures exclude investment grants, which are not confined to the assisted areas, and regional employment premium, which is the responsibility of the Department of Employment.

Tax allowances available to undertakings in the assisted areas are set out in the booklet "Incentives for Industry in the Areas for Expansion" which is available free of charge to firms that are considering investment in the assisted areas.
