HC Deb 16 December 1974 vol 883 cc344-5W
Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many beds at Groby Road Hospital, Leicester, are closed because of a shortage of nursing staff; and what percentage this represents of the total number of beds.

Dr. Owen

Thirty-one beds—12.4 per cent. of total complement—are closed at Groby Road Hospital. Of these, 12— 4.8 per cent.—are closed solely through lack of nursing staff.

I regret the inaccuracies in my reply to my hon. and learned Friend the Member for Leicester, West (Mr. Janner) on Wednesday 20th November.—[Vol, 881, c. 445.]

Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the shortfall of nurses at the Groby Road Hospital, Leicester; what this represents as a proportion of the full complement; and what action she is taking to bring the nursing staff up to strength at that hospital.

Dr. Owen

The number in post on 30th November 1974 was 8.5 —3.5 per cent.—short of the funded establishment.

The Leicestershire Area Health Authority is taking active measures to improve recruitment.
