HC Deb 16 December 1974 vol 883 c301W
Mr. Wellbeloved

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what is the average expenditure on food per head of the population of working age at the latest available date.

Mr. Maclennan

There are no official statistics of expenditure on food by people of working age because figures for both the National Food Survey and the Family Expenditure Survey relate to whole households. National Food Survey estimates show that people of all ages except those in pensioner households spent on average £3.06 per person per week between April and June 1974. This does not include about 70p per week spent on soft drinks, confectionery and meals—including school meals—away from home.
