HC Deb 13 December 1974 vol 883 c266W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the present establishment and strength of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.

Mr. Judd

The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and Royal Naval Reserve were amalgamated under the single title of the Royal Naval Reserve in 1958. The current strength of the RNR is:

Officers 2,572
Ratings 3,525

It is not our practice to disclose details of establishments.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he can give an assurance that there will be no cut in the strength of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a result of the defence review.

Mr. Judd

A review of the future role and structure of the Royal Naval Reserve was commissioned by the last Conservative administration. Further studies now form part of the defence review. I cannot say more at the moment.
