Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence which Army formations based in Great Britain are at present assigned to NATO for use outside Great Britain in an emergency.

Mr. William Rodgers

The following Regular Army formations based in the United Kingdom are earmarked for assignment to NATO in an emergency:

  • The United Kingdom Mobile Force.
  • The United Kingdom Joint Airborne Task Force.
  • The United Kingdom contribution to the Allied Command Europe Mobile Force (Land).

Mr. Stanley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received from NATO allies concerning his proposed defence cuts.

Mr. Mason

Our consultations with our NATO allies, which began on 3rd December and will not be completed until early next year, are confidential. Their representations will, however, be taken fully into account by the Government in reaching their decisions.
