HC Deb 12 December 1974 vol 883 c254W
Miss Richardson

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what funds have been provided by the Government for forms of aid and assistance to the Republic of South Vietnam, in addition to the £80,000 a year technical assistance programme and the £1 million in capital aid referred to by her in her answer on 5th April 1974.

Mrs. Hart

In July we contributed £1 million to the UNICEF programme for reconstruction in Indo-China, of which 42 per cent. is directed to North Vietnam and 26 per cent. to South Vietnam, to be spent on health, education, water supply, welfare, and resettlement. We contribute to the Asian Development Bank, of which South Vietnam is a regional member. I understand that the bank's operational programme for 1974 makes provision for loan commitments of $17 million in South Vietnam, which is 2.7 per cent. of the bank's total programme for the year.
