HC Deb 12 December 1974 vol 883 c238W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much it would cost to administer legislation prohibiting the use of fertilisers for non-agricultural purposes.

Mr. Bishop

The cost of the administration would depend on the nature of the scheme.

Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much fertiliser is consumed in a year in the United Kingdom for non-agricultural purposes.

Mr. Bishop

The best estimate which it has been possible to obtain, after consultation with the fertiliser industry, is of the order of one-half of 1 per cent. of the total plant nutrients sold in the United Kingdom.
