The numbers who entered and left employment at local authority residential establishments, other than approved schools, in England were:

§ Dr. OwenThe number of juvenile patients and the periods for which they had been detained in the special hospitals on 6th December 1974 were as follows:
These establishments were administered as children's homes, including reception homes, or remand homes until 1st April 1973 when they became community homes, which expression includes assessment centres.
Approved schools became community homes on various dates from 1st April 1973 onwards, a change of status involving a change of employer in many cases, and comparable figures of staff turnover are not available for the period straddling that date. Between 1st October 1971 and 30th September 1972, 482 staff took up posts in approved schools in England and Wales, and 421 left.
Figures for the 12 months ended 30th September 1974, covering all community homes, will be available in due course.
