asked the Minister of Overseas Development what help the Government propose to offer to Antigua in view of the recent earthquake damage.

A grant of £11,574 has been approved for the immediate purchase of scaffolding for shoring up damaged buildings. In addition the Government of Antigua have accepted an offer that Her Majesty's Government should provide funds as part of their development assistance to Antigua up to £31,250 for the rehabilitation of the Treasury and Supreme Court Buildings and up to £156,250 for the construction of a new Government office block on the outskirts of the capital. Arrangements have also been made for an officer from the Department of the Environment's Building Research Establishment to visit the island to advise on repairs to the Treasury, Supreme Court and other historic buildings.
