Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) what United Kingdom Government grants, aid, tax concessions or other financial assistance are available to British shipowners having ships repaired in the United Kingdom ship repair yards;

(2)what United Kingdom Government grants, aid, tax concessions or other financial assistance are available to British shipowners having ships repaired in foreign ship repair yards;

(3) what united Kingdom Government grants, aid, tax concessions or other financial assistance are available to British shipowners having ships built in United Kingdom shipyards;

(4) what United Kingdom Government grants, aid, tax concessions or other financial assistance are available to British shipowners having ships built in foreign shipyards.

United Kingdom shipowners building in United Kingdom yards are eligible for Government guaranteed credit of up to 70 per cent. of a ship's cost repayable over 7 years at 7½ per cent. interest. United Kingdom shipowners are entitled to free depreciation on new ships whether they are built in this country or overseas. No other form of United Kingdom Government assistance is available to United Kingdom shipowners.
