HC Deb 11 December 1974 vol 883 c182W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what plans he has for the cleaning of the rivers in North Down and, where appropriate encouraging their restocking with fish.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

A full programme of drainage improvement works in this area was begun in 1965 and is proceeding satisfactorily. Plans are well advanced for dealing with the Comber and the Loughries, and a comprehensive hydrological investigation of the Lagan is under way. Drainage works are always carried out in such a way as to cause the least possible damage to fish stocks, but in any case where stocks do not quickly recover consideration is given to restocking.
