Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many schoolchildren qualify for free school meals in each Scottish education authority area; and if he will express this as a percentage of each authority's school population.

The numbers and proportions of children actually taking free school meals are given below. The numbers of children entitled to free meals are not known since entitlement is ascertained only on application:
