asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many voluntary nursery schools are in existence in Scotland.

There is no recognisable category of establishment described as a voluntary nursery school.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many State nursery schools are in existence in Scotland; how this compares with 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973; how many places these schools provide; and if he will list the places county by county.

At January 1974 there were 144 education authority nursery schools in Scotland. Comparable figures for 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 were 101, 109, 119 and 126 respectively. The number of children attending education authority nursery schools in each area at January 1974 is given in the table below:
