asked the Minister for the Civil Service what plans he has to maintain the salaries of members of the Cabinet in real terms; and by how much it would be necessary to raise these to allow for the depreciation in the value of money since they were last fixed.

There are no plans at present to increase the salaries of members of the Cabinet. The salary rates were introduced on 1st April 1972 and to allow for the depreciation in the value of money since that date they would need to be increased by 34 per cent.
