HC Deb 10 December 1974 vol 883 c147W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many people are employed by the Anglia Water Authority; and how this compares with the numbers employed by the former constituent water authorities at the time immediately before the creation of the Anglia Water Authority.

Mr. Denis Howell

I understand that the number of people employed by the Anglia Water Authority is 6,733.

On water supply the total number of staff employed before reorganisation by predecessor authorities was 2,546 and the number employed by river authorities was 2,089.

It is not possible to give a figure for staff employed on sewage disposal since staff employed are frequently also employed on other functions, especially sewerage, which is still carried out on an agency basis by local authorities.
