asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps she is taking to reduce the number of nurses supplied by agencies to the National Health Service.

As my hon. Friend the Minister of State told my hon. Friend during the debate on the National Health Service on 2nd December—[Vol. 882, c. 1254]—we are determined to reduce the dependence of the National Health Service on nurses' agencies and we intend shortly to issue guidance to National Health Service employing authorities on this subject.
