HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 c12W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce measures to ensure that every vehicle is fitted with an effective device to reduce road spray to following vehicles.

Mr. Carmichael

Regulations already require the fitting of devices to catch mud or water thrown up by the rotation of the wheels, unless adequate protection is afforded by the body of the vehicle. We are conducting research into ways of making this protection more effective, and it will not be advisable to frame more stringent requirements until the results of this programme are available.
