HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 c10W
50. Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the average increase, in percentage terms, of rents within the last period of one year for which figures are available in the London and Greater London areas, of rents of private landlords' tenants decided by rent offices and rent assessment committees on appeal, respectively, compared with the previous rent registrations.

Mr. Kaufman

In the Greater London area analysis of rents registered during 1973 as a result of applications for re-registration made at least three years after the previous registered rents became effective showed an average increase of 18 per cent. over those previous rents. Seven per cent. of the rents so analysed were the subject of appeals made to rent assessment committees and the average increase from previously registered rent to reregistered rents determined by committees was 22 per cent.
