HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 c68W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the extent to which it is proposed to reduce the size and role of the RAF Regiment.

Mr. John

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given today to the right hon. Member for Worcester (Mr. Walker).

Mr. Buck

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of the proposed reduction in the number of personnel serving in the RAF Regiment is referable to the closure of RAF stations.

Mr. John

I would refer the hon. and learned Member to the answer given today to the right hon. Member for Worcester (Mr. Walker). The proposed closure of RAF stations in the United Kingdom is unlikely to be a significant factor in reaching a final decision on the size of the RAF Regiment.

Mr. Peter Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the present size of the RAF Regiment and the size he contemplates it will be after the reductions announced in his statement of 3rd December 1974.

Mr. John

The present size of the RAF Regiment was given in my reply to the hon. Member for Tynemouth (Mr. Trotter) on 3rd December 1974. The extent of any final reductions in the RAF Regiment will depend in part on the size and nature of the tasks remaining after consultations with our allies are complete, and in part on the completion of internal studies now in hand.
