HL Deb 09 December 1974 vol 355 c530WA
Baroness ROBSON of KIDDINGTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people are employed at the Department of Health and Social Security today and how many were employed there in 1972, distinguishing between those employed in the Health Service section and those in the Social Security section.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The functions of the Departments are now integrated in many respects and no precise apportionment is possible. The total number of staff employed on 1st October 1974 was 83,444 of whom approximately 6,750 were engaged on health matters. The corresponding numbers for 1st October 1972 were 73,482 and 6,000 respectively. These figures do not include staff employed at the special hospitals.

House adjourned at seven minutes before nine o'clock.
