HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 c73W
Mr. Peter Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what figure he used as the Government's estimate of the increase in gross national product over the next ten years in calculating the savings representing a drop from 5½ per cent, to 4½ per cent, in defence expenditure over that period.

Mr. William Rodgers

In the defence review it was assumed for planning purposes that gross national product would grow broadly in line with productive potential conventionally estimated at a rate of the order of 3 per cent, per annum.
