HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 cc60-1W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what provision has been made for the housing of the Director of Personnel Management at RAF Inns-worth ; what is the cost of the said property, its repair and furnishings; and from what sources it is to be met.

Mr. John

The Air Vice-Marshal post of Director-General of Personnel Management was created in late 1971 when the Record and Pay Office at Gloucester was enlarged by the dispersal of additional work from London, and became the Personnel Management Centre. An appropriate Service married quarter was not available, but the purchase of a suitable house has now been agreed. The house will need certain modifications and re-decoration but its furnishings will be provided mainly from existing Service stocks. The married quarter currently occupied by the Director-General will be sold. The net cost of replacing the existing married quarter will be a charge against the defence budget, but this budget has already benefited from the sale of a number of other such houses which have become surplus as a result of measures taken to streamline the Royal Air Force organisation. It is not the usual practice to reveal the financial details of transactions made by private treaty.
