HC Deb 06 December 1974 vol 882 c665W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much money has been made available to the British Council for the current financial year for youth exchange projects to Common Market countries; and if he can indicate the sum which will be made available in 1975–76.

Miss Joan Lestor

In the current financial year a sum of £185,000 has been made available to the British Council for youth exchange projects to Common Market countries. It is proposed that £167,000 will be made available for this purpose in the financial year 1975–76.

Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much money has been made available so far under the arrangements instituted by the previous Government for youth exchange projects to Common Market countries; and whether he will give particular encouragement to exchange programmes involving community work.

Miss Joan Lestor

Under arrangements instituted by the previous Government a sum of £416,000 has been made available up to the end of the financial year 1974–75 for youth exchange projects in Common Market countries. The British Council encourages all worthwhile youth exchange projects including those involving community work.
