HC Deb 06 December 1974 vol 882 cc642-3W
Mr. Goodhart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what reductions of manpower in the Army he intends to make in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978 respectively.

Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will announce further details of the proposed cut in Army manpower which he announced on 3rd December 1974.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Our proposals, on which we are now consulting our allies and the Governments concerned, involve reducing Army manpower by about 12,000 compared with the strength in April this year. The bulk of the reductions would take place in the next few years. But I cannot give further details at this stage.
