HC Deb 06 December 1974 vol 882 c663W
Mr. William Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will initiate discussions between all concerned countries and the United Nations designed to lead to the admission of North Korea and South Korea to the United Nations.

Mr. Ennals

Her Majesty's Government sponsored at the UN a year ago a resolution which would have had that effect but which was not voted upon. Unfortunately the North Koreans strongly opposed the concept, and still do so.

Mr. William Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the number of Western Governments which have recognised the People's Republic of North Korea, whether he will consider the recognition of North Korea by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Ennals

This is a matter which is kept under periodic review.
