HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 c624W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will now seek to amend the regulations to allow sickness benefit to be payable to those suffering from diseases which produce intermittent effects for accumulated single days off work.

Mr. Alec Jones

I assume that the hon. Member is concerned with isolated days of incapacity and not with days which are in sufficiently close proximity to link under existing arrangements. I do not think that the medical involvement, administrative time and benefit expenditure necessary to pay sickness benefit for isolated days of incapacity could be justified.
