HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 c564W
71. Mr. Litterick

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what alternative means of short-term saving the Government are considering making available to low income families in the absence of the l0p savings stamp.

Mr. Dell

There are already available in the National Savings Bank and the trustee savings banks short-term savings facilities for families at all income levels. Certain nationalised industries already make arrangements for payment of bills by instalments; in addition, the Government are arranging for the introduction of a TV licence scheme for those who used the savings stamp for this purpose. The Government are also considering with the National Savings Committee the implications of the decision to discontinue the stamp.
