Mr. Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the most up-to-date figures for the size of police forces in England and Wales; and if he will publish the figures by rank for each police area.

On 31st October 1974 the strength of the police service in England and Wales was 101,014, made up as follows:
