HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 c570W
77. Mr. Torney

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will give an assurance that no import taxes or levies on food imported into the United Kingdom will be raised in 1975.

Mr. Deakins

No. So far as duties are concerned we are wholly bound under the EEC Accession Treaty to make the tariff moves due on 1st January next, which include, as well as further cuts in duties on all imports from the rest of the Community, some duty increases as well as reductions on imports from third countries. Levies on food are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
